Why are bright yellow socks important?
Why are bright yellow socks important?
“There are several reasons why bright socks are important to a bass fisherman. One is self-identification, it’s nice for people to know who you are, but I have an ulterior motive for wearing them. If I need to run up in the woods in the morning for a “Waffle House” visit, I can mark the area so an unsuspecting camper doesn’t stumble on the crime scene.”

What are your two favorite ways to catch summertime bass?
What are your two favorite ways to catch summertime bass?
“Hopping a 3/4-ounce War Eagle football jig along the bottom. Short hops really seem to get a lot of attention. I also love deep cranking, not much beats an 8 or 10XD in the dead of summer. Those big bass set up on a hump or ledge and just can’t say no to a deep diving crankbait. During the hot summer days, those are the two rods I’ll have on the deck of the boat all day every day.”

What is your least favorite meat?
What is your least favorite meat?
“Liver and duck, period. No matter how you cook a duck, it’s like French kissing the dog that went and got the duck. I’ve had duck all over the country, and everybody says, “Oh, you gotta try it my way.” Nope. Duck is nasty. Duck liver? No chance; that is out. I won’t even start in on eating liver.”

Where did you find that Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) bracelet?
Where did you find that Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) bracelet?
“A guy I used to work for a long time ago started using that term, PMA. And it kind of stuck with me and my fishing. I started having bracelets made as a constant reminder that if you have positive mental attitude great things could happen. Now it took off and people are always asking me if they can buy them, but I have them available through my Facebook page. If you want one, just message me and we’ll set it up. It’s funny how those three letters (PMA) relate to everyone, everywhere I go.”

When you win the Classic, what color of confetti do you want to rain down?
When you win the Classic, what color of confetti do you want to rain down?
“Dollar bills. I want it to rain money. I’m gonna go head-butt Dave Mercer, go run through the crowd and take my shirt off, just like that girl did at that soccer game. I’m going to tell them to crank my truck up and I’ll make three laps around that arena, and the last one will be Talladega style — I’m gonna hit every wall in there. Rubbin’s racin’, we just won the Classic, and we don’t care!”
If you had one rod and one reel to fish with the rest of your life, what would it be?
If you had one rod and one reel to fish with the rest of your life, what would it be?
“It would be a 7-foot, 2-inch Quantum EXO medium/heavy rod with a Quantum PT Magnesium reel in a 6.3:1 gear ratio loaded with 18-pound Sunline, and I’d throw a 3/8-ounce War Eagle brown jig with a green/pumpkin chunk. I use that combo 90 percent of the time. I can throw a jig or a spinnerbait, and it’ll work for all kinds of other presentations as well. It’s just a solid all-around rod-and-reel combo that I’ve relied on for a long time. You’ll love it, too. I promise.”
