Zona’s awesome live hunt

If you have ever wanted to deer hunt in South Texas with Mark Zona, then you will want to be a part of OutdoorChannel.com’s next live hunt set for Fri., Dec. 6, at 1 p.m. ET.

If you have ever wanted to deer hunt in South Texas and budget, time, distance or whatever has kept you from it then you will want to be a part of OutdoorChannel.com’s next live hunt.

Mark Zona, host of Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show and co-host of the Bassmaster TV show, will be the guest-host for a day for OutdoorChannel.com.

Set to go live Friday, Dec. 6, at 1 p.m. ET, Zona will join Robert Scherer at his deer camp near Freer, Texas, for an afternoon hunt that promises to entertain.

“This is a dream hunt for me,’’ Zona said. “I’ve had my share of nightmare hunts, my share of every type of hunt, but I’ve never had the opportunity to sit in the brush country of South Texas.

“I watch the same shows on Outdoor Channel every one else watches from that area and I’m always thinking ‘is that for real?’ Now I get a chance to be there. How awesome is that?

“I think it must be a lot like the fishing guys who see those big 6-pound smallmouth coming from some of our Michigan’s lakes. They have the same thoughts.”

This is the third live hunt on Outdoor Channel.com, but this one will start in the middle of the day in an area of the country where the rut is getting ready to kick in.

“I’ve hunted there this time of year before,’’ said Steve Bowman, content editor for Outdoor Channel.com and Bassmaster.com. “It’s pretty cool to sit on a stand and see the deer you get to see in an intensively managed deer club.

“It’s likely for us to see dozens of deer in the 130-inch range, with a sprinkling of deer much larger. The largest deer I’ve seen on the stand there is estimated to be in the 180-inch neighborhood. When those deer get active, it’s a sight to behold.”

“This is something totally new,’’ said Mike Williams, vice-president of digital media for Outdoor Channel. “Our audience loves to tune into the network to watch their heroes hunt and fish around the world.

“A live-streamed hunt on OutdoorChannel.com gives them the opportunity to go on a hunt with one of our guests while sitting at their desks during the work week.”
