WILSON COUNTY, N.C. — Ethan Howard of Clayton High School in North Carolina caught this 9-pound, 8-ounce beast on a local fishery, Buckhorn Reservoir, on March 22. Howard caught her on a medium diving crankbait.

Now he just has to see if that great fortune will follow him to the 2014 Bassmaster High School Championship, July 16-19, on Kentucky Lake and Carroll County Reservoir in Tennessee.

Howard qualified for the championship earlier this year. If he wins the championship, he’ll take home the first Bassmaster High School Championship trophy, as well as scholarship money from B.A.S.S.

The winner will also be awarded a scholarship from Bethel University if he or she chooses to attend Bethel.
