Connecticut awards $3,000 in scholarships

Three recent high school graduates received scholarships awarded by the Connecticut B.A.S.S. Federation Nation.

The Connecticut B.A.S.S. Federation Nation awarded three scholarships this summer as part of its annual award program.

Olivia Rustic won first place and $1,500 in scholarship money. She is sponsored by her father, Dean Rustic, of Mohawk Valley Bassmasters. Olivia graduated from North West Catholic High School and is now attending Bryant University.

Ashley Pecorelli, sponsored by her father, Kevin Pecorelli, from Bass Busters, received $1,000 scholarship award. She is sponsored by her father Kevin. Ashley graduated from Bristol Central High School and is enrolled at Vassar College. Melinda Noel was awarded $500. She is sponsored by her father, Kevin Noel, of Mohawk Valley Bassmasters. Melinda graduated from Lewis S. Mills High School and now attends Keene State.

Since January 2005, the CBFN has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships. Applicants must answer various questions, write a short essay and give information about their studies. Finalists are selected by the scholarship committee.

“The CBFN thanks its sponsors, membership and the committee for making the scholarship program such a success,” said Sylvia Morris, president of the CBFN. “A big ‘thank you’ goes to our scholarship chairperson Kevin Lavander and our judges — Matt DeSimone, Chris Evans and Dan Monroe.”
