Gear Review: Xcite Baits 360 Underspin

A different look at the presentation that won the 2015 Bassmaster Classic.

What is it?

Xcite Baits 360 Underspin

What does it do?

The swimming jighead has a small willowleaf spinner attached to the underside of the jig for added flash and realism.

What sets it apart?

With an ultra-realistic 3D jighead available in either 1/4- or 1/2-ounce weights and seven attractive colors, the lure was designed with a premium ball-bearing swivel and a highly reflective willow blade beneath the chin. It was molded with a baitkeeper barb behind the head that helps the selected plastic dressing to stay on the rig longer.

How do I use it?

Casey Ashley used an underspin that was built by his father, which won the 2015 Bassmaster Classic on Lake Hartwell. During a powerful early spring cold front that had bass suspended in submerged treetops, this presentation convinced negative fish to eat. The Xcite design comes with increased realism, and is simple to use. Choose a small swimbait and feed it onto the baits hook shaft past the baitkeeper barb. Slowly drag it near woody cover or along thick weed edges.

Editor insight:

This kind of lure is not a new concept, but a large portion of America’s bass anglers weren’t keeping a stock on-hand until Casey Ashley showed the world that they do catch big fish. Xcite’s 360 is a terrific version of this presentation, the detail really stands out and it will fool stubborn fish, even under clear-water conditions. If you don’t have a handful of these, you need to get some!
