Gear Review: Scum Frog Pro Series Loud Rattle

Scum Frog has added a feature that is sure to attract more attention.

What is it?

Scum Frog Pro Series Loud Rattle

What does it do?

It is a topwater frog with an attached glass rattle to create attractive noise.

What sets it apart?

The glass rattle is designed to increase water disturbance, the rattle is attached near the base of the hook, which will not inhibit hook-up consistency. The bait comes standard with a brass weight, 3-D molded eyes for added realism and 4/0 Owner hooks, which are slightly pointed up for better hooking leverage. The nose ring provides added freedom of movement to improve the walk-the-dog action.

How do I use it?

Drop the lure into thick, matted vegetation and work it back to the boat in a twitching manner that best mimics a frog scrambling for safety. Once the frog makes it to open water, work it back to the boat in a walk-the-dog manner. There are 7 colors to choose from, including Black Night, Bright White, Natural Black/Gree, Black Lime, Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Red and Red Pearl.

How much?

$7.00

Editor insight:

How does the noise help? Well, when you are working a thick mat of grass, the added noise will help a hungry bass zero in on a specific position. If you run a frog across the veg on a regular basis, you know big bass often miss their target. In fact, I’d say I hook up with less than 50 percent of the fish that try to eat frogs. The glass rattle was designed to improve the number of hookups you may encounter when working the slop.
