Gear Review: LiveTarget Threadfin Shad Squarebill

The new Threadfin Shad squarebill from LiveTarget is sure to turn a lot of heads.

What is it?

LiveTarget Threadfin Shad Squarebill

What does it do?

The lure replicates several adult shad swimming in a compact cluster. This presentation is ideal when shad are shallow and using rock and wood as cover.

What sets it apart?

The baitball concept that LiveTarget introduced a few years ago at ICAST has held strong. Baitfish often move through the water in groups, and that is replicated with LiveTarget’s signature BaitBall series of squarebill cranks. The Threadfin Magnum Squarebill keeps to the tradition of ultra-realism, and now it works well in and around heavy cover.

How do I use it?

The lure has excellent deflection properties with an impact resistant polycarbonate lip, and runs well at slow and fast retrieve speeds. When the forage base is strong and holding tight to, or above, structure, this lure will shine. It’s very buoyant so when it comes in contact with existing cover, it easily floats out avoiding hang-ups. It’s available in 7 realistic color patterns and 3- and 3.5-inch sizes.

How much?

Editor insight:

When bumping wood and grinding on rocks becomes the norm for bass, the LiveTarget Magnum Squarebill should be within easy reach. The larger profile appeals to big fish and makes it easy to find, especially when fishing in a shad-rich environment. Check your local retailers in December when the lure is officially released.
