Gear Review: Berkley Dredger

What is it?

Berkley Dredger

What does it do?

A series of deep-diving crankbaits.

What sets it apart?

The already cool line of Berkley hardbaits was in need of a deep-diving model, and it’s finally here. The Dredger will present a smaller profile at depths that typically only see big crankbaits, and it’s sure to garner plenty of attention from anglers and fish alike.

How do I use it?

A combination of body shape and weighted bill drive this bait deep to stay in the strike zone longer. Whether cranked slowly or quickly, the Dredger has a tight, subtle action that is proven to trigger fish that hang out in the deepest water to strike without hesitation. Available in five diving depth models: 10 1/2-, 14 1/2-, 17 1/2-, 20 1/2- and 25 1/2-foot divers.

How much?

$8.95

Editor insight:

The new line of Berkley crankbaits was cool to begin with, but it certainly needed one that was capable of reaching ledge-hugging summertime bass, and the Dredger is the answer. I know it’s mentioned above, but the smaller profile at 20-plus-feet really has me interested. I think this bait has the potential to be a regular big-fish producer.
