Where will the cut mark fall?

The Day 2 weigh-in always carries some extra drama, as the 110-angler field is cut to the top 51 for Day 3. At every Elite Series event, Day 2 determines who goes home with at least a $10,000 check, and who just goes home. On a lake like Okeechobee, where miraculous rallies are possible, you pray to fish another day.

So where will the cut mark fall at the end of today’s weigh-in? In 2012, 25 pounds over two days was where the joy and heartbreak occurred. Seven guys totaled between 25-5 (52nd place) and 25-15 (46th place). The two-day cut then, with 99 anglers, was the Top 50. Pat Golden and Cliff Prince tied for 50th with 25-10, and Golden won the tiebreaker.

Yesterday, Brandon Coulter and John Crews were tied for 50th with 13-10. If you double that (27-4) and add at least 1 pound, that will probably give you a good idea of where the Top 51 cut will be today.

Currently, BASSTrakk indicates Mark Daniels Jr. is in 51st place with 25-1. There are 14 anglers with between 25-13 (44th—Jason Christie) and 23-13 (57th—Matt Lee).
