Martens: Fixing a fouled cast

Aaron Martens shares a tip that could save you time on the water.

It happens all the time: you make that long, perfect cast and, for whatever reason, the hooks foul and catch the line. Most of us reel it in really fast, fix the bait and then make another cast. The problem with that method is that a fouled bait spins all the way back to the boat. That causes line twist, and line twist is never a good thing. It hurts casting distance and accuracy, and it weakens your line.

By using this simple technique I figured out several years ago, you can actually fix the bait before retrieving it all the way to the boat. Give it a try. I hope it helps you catch more fish.
