Open: Day 1 behind the scenes

Jason Newberryâs best fish of the day held the big bass of the day lead for a long time, until Tommy Biffle weighed in a 5 pound, 10 ounce bass.

Newberry had a good smallmouth in the live well that propelled him to the lead in the co-angler division.

Josh Bertrand caught a big largemouth today, too.

Casey Scanlon bags his fish at the end of the day. Scanlon won a Central Open held here in 2012.

One last measurement before this one goes to the weigh-in.

Jeff Kriet was one of the first boats to check in on Day 1.

A good crowd began to gather before the weigh in was underway.

Several anglers like Chris Jones, did interviews with local television stations before the weigh in started.

Jeff Kriet claimed he was doing an impromptu seminar for his fellow competitors before the weigh in, but we suspect otherwise.
