Bassmaster’s “Day on the Lake” series is a look at the real world of bass fishing. Top B.A.S.S. pros travel to small lakes they’ve never seen before, and then spend seven hours locating and catching bass while Bassmaster logs their every move. This month 38-year-old J Todd Tucker, of Moultrie, Ga., tries his luck in terrible weather conditions a small reservoir. 8:15 a.m. Tucker prepares to swing aboard a bass that hit his jerkbait on a steep bank while facing an approaching snowstorm.
8:15 a.m. Tucker’s brings in his first keeper bass of the day, a 2 pound, 2 ounce largemouth.
The largemouth hit a Megabass jerkbait on a steep bank leading to a main lake point.
8:18 a.m. Looking for a lure he can fish shallow, Tucker searches through his stash of lipless crankbaits.
8:30 a.m. “It looks like chaos, but I know where everything is!” he claims, as he searches through his stash of lures.
“Are we having fun yet?” Tucker asks.
9:39 a.m. Tucker opts to try an Alabama rig equipped with three swimbaits and two spinnerbait blades.
10:05 a.m. “Get the fryer ready!” Tucker says as he bags a perch on his jerkbait.
10:44 a.m. Tucker uses a homemade plug knocker to retrieve a lure hung in a brushpile.
11 a.m. With a snowstorm roaring across Lake G, Tucker fishes through the worst weather conditions in the history of this series!
With wind chill in the low teens, Tucker attempts to catch another keeper.
12:21 p.m. Tucker swings aboard his second keeper of the day, a 1 pound, 1 ounce largemouth. The keeper bass smacked a Daiwa jerkbait on Lake G’s dam.
At the end of the day, Tucker’s boat is covered in ice and snow from his seven hours on Lake G.
