Bassmaster’s “Day on the Lake” series is a look at the real world of bass fishing. Top B.A.S.S. pros travel to small lakes they’ve never seen before, and then spend seven hours locating and catching bass while Bassmaster logs their every move. This month 31-year-old Clark Reehm, of Lufkin, Texas, tries his luck on a small reservoir. 7:09 a.m. Unable to run Lake S due to dense fog, Reehm idles to a point near the launch ramp and makes his first cast with a bladed jig.
7:09 a.m. On his first cast of the day on fogbound Lake S, a lunker bass nails Reehm’s bladed jig.
7:09 a.m. Reehm hefts the 6-9 lunker that whacked his bladed jig on his first cast of the day.
7:42 a.m. The fog is getting thicker as Reehm sticks another bass on his bladed jig.
7:42 a.m. Reehm swings aboard his second keeper of the day, 2 pounds, 3 ounces.
7:49 a.m. The fog shows signs of lifting as Reehm slow rolls his bladed jig down a long point.
8:11 a.m. Lake S is fogged up again as Reehm returns to the spot where he caught a 6-9 on his first cast.
8:25 a.m. Reehm switches to a War Eagle spinnerbait so he can probe some laydown trees.
8:42 a.m. Reehm’s third keeper of the day, 3 pounds, 8 ounces, hit his bladed jig fished parallel to a boat dock walkway.
9:51 a.m. “It’s not much, but I’ll take it for now!” Reehm says after catching his fourth keeper, a 12-ounce largemouth.
11:11 a.m.Reehm fishes a main-lake point on Lake S.
12:10 p.m. On his next cast after losing a 5-pounder, Reehm catches his sixth keeper, 2 pounds even, on his bladed jig.
12:15 p.m. Reehm readies a Lucky Craft jerkbait to fish a main-lake point.
1:24 p.m. Reehm hangs a big fish on a laydown tree.
1:24 p.m. Reehm’s second biggest bass of the day, a beautiful 5-3 largemouth, smacked his Grinder bladed jig on a laydown tree.
A Bobby D’s Grinder bladed jig proved to be Reehm’s ticket to these two lunker bass during his day on Lake S. At the end of the day, Reehm had put together an impressive five-bass limit totaling 19 pounds, 7 ounces. B.A.S.S.
