Watch Elites drop beats in Rod Flexin music video

The Bass Elite steal the spotlight in the new music video "Rod Flexin"

A former Bassmaster Casting kid and lifelong fishing fan, Lawrence Chase fulfilled a childhood dream when he went to the 2016 Bassmaster Elite at Potomac River presented by Econo Lodge. At his first Bassmaster Elite Series weigh in, Chase talked to several Elite Pros about being in his new music video and the result is a music video Bassmaster fans will enjoy. “Every Pro angler I asked to be in my video did it without hesitation,” Chase said. “[They were] such a nice group of men. I never thought it would be that easy.”

The angler and artist wrote the song “Rod Flexin” after his parody “2 Poles” garnered a lot of support from the fishing community. Though Chase wrote the lyrics and produced this video on his own, he did have help from other Maryland artists. The beat was produced by Matthew Fielding, and it was recorded at Night Sky Studios with Ron Vento. He originally planned to make the video out of clips of people fishing all over the U.S., but he didn’t have enough footage to complete the video. That’s when he learned the Bass Elite would be in his home state, and he got the idea to go to our weigh in.

Meeting the Elites he’s watched on TV was by far the coolest moment for Chase, and he said the he’ll never forget when Mike Iaconelli broke his rod on camera. “I felt bad. At the same time, I couldn’t stop laughing,” Chase said. Some of our favorite performances include Gerald Swindle, Shaw Grigsby and Keith Combs.

If you’re thinking about making a song or video inspired by fishing, Chase encourages you to do it. “If you love it, your hearts in it, and the passion is there, then the lyrics will not be hard to find,” Chase said.
