OU bass angler catches lake record

Alexis Howard caught this lake record spotted bass on Lake Thunderbird.

Alexis Howard had never caught a bass in Oklahoma before. But when she went out on Lake Thunderbird in November, she ended up catching the lake record spotted bass, at 3 pounds, 2 ounces.

Howard, 19, is a member of the University of Oklahoma Bass Club, which is coached by former Bassmaster Elite Series pro Kenyon Hill.

“Its hard to catch a record fish of any kind, out of any lake,” Hill told Ed Godfrey of The Oklahoman. “There are people who have been fishing Thunderbird 20 or 30 years and havent caught one.”

Howard is a freshman majoring in meteorology. She caught the bass on a crankbait.
