Kevin Short’s home demolished by tornado

Mayflower, Ark., where Kevin and Kerry Short live, was hit hard, and their home took on significant damage.

A wave of tornadoes ripped through the south-central United States Sunday, killing at least 16 people in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Iowa.

Mayflower, Ark., where Elite angler Kevin Short and his wife, Kerry, live, was hit hard, and their home took on significant damage. At the time of the tornado the Shorts were in Many, La., preparing for the Elite Series tournament at Toledo Bend.

A large tree fell on the Shorts' home, and the tornado did the rest of the damage. According to Bassmaster.com writer Don Barone, who has been in touch with Kevin and Kerry, the garage with Kevin's tackle and fishing supplies is completely gone. See video below of the destruction.

Kevin's 80-plus-year-old dad lives two doors down the street. He and his girlfriend survived with cuts and bruises, but the home was destroyed. A neighbor across the street from the Shorts was killed in the tornado.

The good news, if you could call it that, is the Shorts' fifth-wheel trailer, their truck and their boat, were also in Many, La., and are unharmed.

Elite angler Billy McGaghren also lives in Mayflower, Ark., and the reports we're hearing is his home and family made it through without significant damage.

We'll keep you updated as we get more news. Please keep the families impacted by the storm in your thoughts and prayers.
