Hackney goes back to work

I just had one of those moments on the water that will live in memory for some time.

Powroznik made a move across the lake and shut down near Greg Hackney.

It was an interesting sight: one man whose disqualification opened the door in the AOY race for the other.

They slowly fished closer to each other. On any other day it would have simply been two pros working the same area.

Given the circumstances it was anything but that.

These two are good friends. Each angler holds an immense amount of respect for the other. Each deserve that respect regardless of the situation.

They exchanged pleasantries, remarking on the toughness of the day. That description holding a double meaning for Hackney.

As they passed, we took a minute to visit with Hackney. He was somber obviously trying to make something big happen on a day when the odds were against it.

When it was relayed that no matter what, he was still in the AOY race, he quickly shed the somberness with the well-known “Hack Attack” look many of us know so well.

“Oh, I know,” he said. “But it won’t happen today.”

The exchange left us feeling like he’s ready to get back catching fish and climbing standings with this episode behind him.

It’s too soon to say it, but we have to assume with another day underway, “the Hack Attack is back.”
