Best Bass Lakes of 2013: Falcon Lake

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Last year, most fishermen would have bet their favorite baitcasting reel that this lake would be No. 1 on this list for the next century.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Last year, most fishermen would have bet their favorite baitcasting reel that this lake would be No. 1 on this list for the next century. However, superlow lake levels have hurt the fishery in ways many anglers don’t yet understand, and local anglers continue to eat every bass they catch, regardless of how big it is. That said, the March Elite Series event still took over 100 pounds to win (Keith Combs took the crown with 111-5; runner-up Rick Clunn had 105-6 with only 18 bass). However, Classic champ Cliff Pace put it best: “Used to, you’d catch 60 fish trying to cull to 30 pounds. Now, you hope the six bites you get are good ones.” Thirteen Elite Series anglers failed to catch a limit at least one day during the event.
