Edwin Evers is due. Long regarded as one of the very best on tour, he's yet to win a major title — Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year or a Bassmaster Classic. Of course, with Kevin VanDam in his prime, the major titles are mostly spoken for.
Evers is strong on rivers and especially good at the Alabama River, where he was runner up to VanDam at last year's postseason event. Though most of his six career wins have come in the spring and fall (and he definitely prefers spinnerbaits and crankbaits when he can use them), he can catch them anytime, anywhere and will do whatever it takes to compete.
Haunted by poor performances in Florida, Evers got that monkey off his back this year with a win on the St. Johns River at the Citrus Slam. He'll be fishing his 11th Classic in 2012 and going back to the site of his best Classic finish. Evers was 5th on the Red River in 2009.
In 2007, Evers became the youngest angler ever to join the BASS Millionaires' Club. He was just 32 years, 7 months and 22 days old when he cracked the seven figure mark.
"I'm really excited about All Star Week," said Evers. "Being there for the postseason and AOY race last year was great, but things didn't go quite the way I hoped. I love both of those fisheries (Lake Jordan and the Alabama River) and thought I could do really well on Jordan, but it didn't work out for me. I'm looking forward to another chance.
"I'm also looking forward to the head-to-head competition," Evers added. "It'll be interesting. Even if you have a great day, you could run up against the one angler in the field who has a better day and find yourself eliminated."
