Rojas starts with a kicker fish

So what's considered a "kicker fish" on the St. Lawrence River – a bigger than average bass that will help separate you from the rest of the field? It's a 5-pounder, according to Bill Lowen.

"You don't see many 6-pound smallmouth," he said. "A 5-pounder is a kicker fish. I'd take some 5s all day long."

Dean Rojas, the current leader in the Angler of the Year standings, started his day with a kicker – a 5-pounder caught at 7:19. There's also a couple of 4s on the board already as well.
