Headed downriver

Jim Sexton and I are headed down river toward Lake Ontario.

We've talked to enough anglers to get the feel that we will run across a good portion of them. But we don't have any guarantees. We've been driving for an hour and will soon be to a ramp and putting in the St. Lawrence. Then we will be crossing our fingers that those who said they were coming will show.

Those we talked with said "I don't get many bites down there, but when I do it's a big one."

Everyone has indicated that the fishing isn't like it was two years ago. The smallmouth in the river are much more scattered than in our previous trip.

Terry Scroggins said he drove 20 miles on the river yesterday and never saw another angler. He pointed to the scattered nature of the field. But also pointed out the river is so big it's hard to see someone on one side if you are  on the other.

Sounds like we are taking a long ride for an Easter egg hunt. Hopefully it works and doesn't turn into a wild goose chase.
