Don Barone started a little thing this week where he picks a Bassmaster member from the very back of the crowd and gives them a backstage pass to watch the Elites gather up before they go on stage.
Today it was a gentleman by the name of Snooky Flowers. I learned that he's a noted baritone saxophone player. He was the band leader for Janis Joplin's Cosmic Blues Band. And he played sax for Jimmy Hendrix, among others.
Flowers grew up in Leesville, La., where he fished the Toledo Bend area. He moved out to the Bay Area in 1966. He's been a passionate bass angler for many years and fishes tournaments in the Future Pros Tour. Ish Monroe is a member of his bass fishing club.
When I asked him how old he is, he laughed and said, "above 65."
