Fighting for the Classic, AOY points

A quick look through the standings and these guys in this part of Huron all have different motivations.

Jones obviously wants to win. He's firmly in the Classic. But adding a win to his already stellar career is something all these anglers are shooting for.

Scanlon on the other hand needs a win for career purposes only. He can't make the Classic. He can't make the AOY. But a win for him would push him up the career ladder. He's been steady the last few years and a championship would set him apart from a lot of those steady and strong anglers.

John Murray probably can't win. But he's fighting for points. He's sitting in 48th in this event and 48th in the AOY standings. He probably can't drop out of the top 50 of the AOY. But another 18 to 20 points would put him in the Classic.

He's working to get it all here and then more at Sturgeon Bay.

Meanwhile down river Palaniuk and Elam are firmly in the Classic and AOY. Elam, like Scanlon, has been a quiet yet consistent angler. A win here would do wonders for his career. He's facing off with Palaniuk who has a couple wins already and knows what that means in terms of sponsorships and recognition.

All through the standings we see guys fighting as much for points today as they are prize money and recognition. Todd Faircloth is the best example of that.

He needed a day like he's been having to have a shot at making the Classic.
