The formula for change on the leaderboard

Here's the formula for a Day 2 shakeup on the Elite Series leaderboard: 1) Lake Havasu, a lake where a 6-pounder is a game-changer, plus 2) a bunch of anglers separated by ounces, not pounds, below the Top 10.

There were exactly 30 anglers within two pounds of each other from 11th place, where Stephen Browning and Alton Jones were tied with 16-11, and 40th place, where Mark Davis had 14-11.

And the distance between 1st and 10th wasn't that big either – only 3-1 – between the leader, Edwin Evers with 20-7, and Kevin VanDam with 17-6. So just a slightly better or worse performance today has the potential to send anglers rocketing up or plummeting down the standings.

Mike Kernan took big bass honors Thursday with a 6-7. Evers also had a 6-pounder. As mentioned previously, those are game-changers at Lake Havasu.
