Martens goes ninja

Martens is thinking about the tide.

"It's a big part of it," he said while he's quietly sneaking from one boat slip to the other. He said he caught them early the first day. Then it's been a little later every day. He knows the tide has to shift but he's hoping to get some bites while the tide is "funky."

It's funky right now. It's still coming up and will be at its highest point in the next 30 minutes.

"They aren't very active right now," he said. "But I'm seeing little inch and a half shad moving around pretty good."

He knows anything he can get to bite in the next 30 will be a bonus. He's moving around the marina very slowly. Easing into open slips, pitching a jig mostly. Then easing to the next one throwing his spinnerbait. On each cast he's lightly touching the bait down on the surface barely making a ripple on the surface.

In the next few hours there will be a bevy of activity on these docks. The noise will be constant and significant. But at the moment Martens has gone totally ninja.
