Lester made big adjustments Saturday

Brandon Lester's Day 3 is a great example of the adjustments every angler has to make during a tournament in order to be successful. Lester got an unwelcome surprise when he got to the place where he'd caught all his bass the first two days. Edwin Evers was sitting on it.

"When I got to that spot and he was there, I thought it was going to be a grind," he said.

Lester emphasized that he had no hard feelings toward Evers, who he'd seen in that area during practice, but not in the tournament. "As good as Edwin is, I knew he was probably going to find that school of fish," Lester said. "I know he found that spot fair and square."

So Lester turned to his brief history on Kentucky Lake. In 2010 he and a partner finished 3rd in a college tournament here. They caught their fish in a creek mouth that Lester described as a well-known community hole. When he got there, a local angler was fishing it. "He was nice enough to wave me in and let me have it," Lester said.

In order to catch those fish, Lester turned to drop-shotting, something he hadn't done all week. And, apparently, he's back in that spot – Bear Creek – doing the same thing today. "The sun is going to bring a lot of fish up," Lester said. "There was a bunch there on my graph when I left (Saturday). It's an early morning deal for me. I was done catching 'em by 10 o'clock."
