Evers searching for a big bite

I'm in the boat with Evers. And he's looking and searching for a big bite to go with his 15-pound plus stringer.

He's also playing a little defense. He's got between 15 and 20 spectators following him. They have been exceptionally respectful by any standard. But on one of our last stops, we did have a boat move in and start fishing.

Edwin said it was a guy who followed him earlier in the week. For that reason he's playing defense. A lot of the things he's hitting are known community holes. But he's pointed out a place or two where he's caught big fish this week.

One in particular he made two casts on Thursday and caught a 5- and a 6-pounder.

He doesn't want to go near it with all these boats watching unless he just has to.

"I'm hoping to save it until tomorrow," he said.

That doesn't mean he won't hit it today. It's still early and he hopes to ply a couple 5-pounders in other places. Or lose is spectator contingent, which ever comes first.

He certainly seems to have things in control. He will occasionally pick up and move to the next waypoint, idle around and then get set up. Time will tell how his defensive plan will work.
