Brett Hite may have punched Classic ticket

Brett Hite was probably among the guys who didn't sleep well last night, after he managed to catch only one bass on Day 1, and it came in the last five minutes. That single 2-pound, 5-ounce smallmouth bass left him in 48th place, enough to put a Bassmaster Classic berth in jeopardy. Hite entered the event in 31st place.

Hite has made up for all that lost ground in less than four hours this morning. He has an estimated 16-1 in the livewells already, which has moved him up 30 places in the unofficial standings. More importantly, 16 pounds would have been a top 10 weight yesterday, and Hite probably needs to finish ahead of only a half-dozen anglers to earn a Classic berth.

In others words, Hite is suddenly in good shape to make the Classic.
