Ike is on ’em

As mentioned earlier, Mike Iaconelli made a decision about 30 minutes ago — one of those that will win or lose a tournament. It looks now like it might win it for him.

The full moon coming Sunday night is what's called a "super moon," according to Pete Gluszek. I haven't had time to Google that yet, but it's creating some unusual conditions — like an extremely low tide, one that made Iaconelli leave the creek where he caught his first two keepers.

Gluszek has been fishing this river for 25 years, and, "I'm seeing stuff I've never seen before," he said. Structure like rockpiles and grass mats.

Iaconelli has been scrambling like a man trying to get his prized possessions from a house fire. He ran out of the creek and across the river to the far bank. Then he ran back to the other bank. Then he ran back to the far bank. And now he's discovered the gold mine.

Three keepers in five minutes. His entourage is going crazy. Iaconelli is fired up. Gluszek says he's got a limit now that weighs about 9 or 10 pounds.

We have just witnessed a master angler at work. He wasted no time on the other two main river spots where he stopped. The water just didn't look right to him. Now he's found what he's been looking for, and this flurry could end as quickly as it started.

Whatever the case, Ike made a helluva decision 30 minutes ago. This is what the pros call "following your instincts."
