Good start for Mark Davis

Davis has put his second in the livewell. This one looked to be about 4-pounds.

Those are the type fish he will need to stay in contention.

While poor-mouthing expectations is a part of this game, I think the number of 20-pound sacks weighed in yesterday surprised a lot of folks. I know it was the general consensus among the pros.

This lake has the quality to do that obviously, but for how long is the question.

Davis has at least started in that direction. He's guarding his key area like a mother hen at the moment. The big flurries we saw yesterday were in that 9:30 am range.

And about the time that was typed, he hooked up again. This one took him to the deck to lip in.

It's about the same size as the last one. That should give him 9- to 10-pounds with three fish, about the same pace he was in yesterday.

I'm at least 100 yards away, so you could add a pound or more to that guess. Either way, he's got a good start.
