Martens starting in Little Bay de Noc

Aaron Martens said Wednesday that he couldn't make up his mind about where he was going to start fishing this morning.

"I may not decide until I get (the boat) on pad," he said.

Just in terms of a general direction, Martens has chosen Little Bay de Noc. We have seen him catch one smallmouth this morning that didn't meet the 14-inch minimum length limit, but we weren't here when he started fishing, so he may have one in the box.

Martens said this would be one the most important decisions he made all season.

"One bay has a bunch of rock in it," he said. "And one bay has a bunch of sand in it."

He's currently fishing a rock drop-off.

I'm with Shaye Baker this morning. Our boat driver is Don Victorson. He was born in Escanaba and grew up commercial fishing with his father in Little Bay de Noc and Big Bay de Noc. We're planning to follow Martens all day, as he begins this three-day tournament second in the AOY standings, 15 points behind Greg Hackney.
