Takeoff time for the 12 finalists today was 6:45 a.m., instead of the 6:30 start on the previous three days. Check-in time is 3:15. The change was made to accommodate photography. And a beautiful morning it is in Detroit: partly cloudy skies, 62 degrees, with a predicted high in the mid to upper 80s. Wind is the key weather factor for the anglers making long runs - whether to Lake Erie or Lake Huron. It's supposed to be 10 to 15 miles per hour out of the southwest. But there's more rough water created by other boaters on The Great Lakes at this point in the weekend. At least with the wind, you know what direction the waves will come. With all the boat traffic, there will be rollers coming from every direction by noon. That's why my two blue boys and I talked our way off the water today. I'm still stepping like I'm sneakin' through the neighbor's watermelon patch.
