Tharp’s prediction accurate

Randall Tharp predicted the 107 Elite Series anglers were “going to catch the snot out of them” the next four days on Cayuga Lake. If you want to know what catching the snot out of them looks like, follow the BASStrakk Twitter feed, which is spinning like a slot machine. Snot, slot, whatever, it’s a lot.

With the first hour of the first day unofficially in the books, seven anglers already had five-bass limits, led by Drew Benton’s 19 pounds, followed by Mike Iaconelli’s 15-12. Benton’s early mark might be a good number to keep in mind. To contend here, you’ll probably have to average somewhere in the vicinity of at least 19 pounds a day.

Amidst the rapid-fire fish catches this morning, keep your eyes on the prize. In the case of Cayuga Lake, the prize is a four-pounder or better.

“It’s amazing how many three- to six-pounders this lake has got in it,” said Greg Hackney yesterday. Hackney thought about that for a second and corrected himself, saying, “Forget the three-pounders. It’s amazing how many four- to six-pounders its got in it.”
