We watched from about 150 yards away as Card hooked up and started a battle with a fish that took the angler from the front of the boat to the back.
He was getting the fish under control when one of those unexplainable things happened and the fish came off. We never saw the fish. But Card was distraught enough to throw his cap, give out a yell of agony then lay down on the deck of his boat for a long minute or more.
While we were thinking things may be slow here, that fish could be an indication that the bite could start picking up.
We’ve already heard a report of Timmy Horton losing a giant almost within grasp. We just hope that he and Card aren’t starting a heart-breaking trend.
