Still shallow and deep

This photo taken by marshal Shane Pickett displays more evidence that a shallow and deep water bite is holding up.

I don’t mean to keep repeating the news but what’s happening this time of the day on Toledo Bend is pretty remarkable, given that normally this time of the year the shallow bite subsides shortly after daybreak.

Usually by now the topwater outfits are stowed in favor of slower moving presentations with soft plastics and jig rigs. It’s all happening now, though, as the day goes on.

That’s Chris Lane, now in the 20-pound weight class along with the Top 6, bringing aboard a late morning topwater bass.

Another picture, taken by B.A.S.S. Senior Editor Thomas Allen, shows nothing but blue water around Kevin VanDam, still in the lead with over 24 pounds. We now know, by evidence of the photo, that KVD is fishing out in the lake.
