Lowen with a 6-pound bass

Minutes ago we found Bill Lowen with zero in his livewell. He finished yesterday inside the Top 10 and was clearly anxious about having no fish this deep into the morning. Shortly after we arrived he landed a 1 1/2-pounder.

“It’s a start,” he said, clearly feeling some relief. About the same time a big fish, perhaps 6 pounds, boiled up next to his boat. One in our party suggested maybe we had brought him some luck.

“Don’t you frickin’ leave,” he said with a smile. Two minutes later Lowen caught the 6-pounder. “I’m so jacked up I’m shaking,” he said. “This is the Bassmaster Classic!”
