Fish New York’s Chautauqua Lake

Local anglers ply these waters for the world-class muskie fishing found here.

This quaint town nestled in the southeastern part of the state is well-known for the many festivals it holds to celebrate culture, art and community. The Lucille Ball Comedy Festival, Thunder In The Streets (classic cars show) and Yassou Festival (Greek cultural celebration) are just a few. However, nearby Chautauqua Lake is what fishermen celebrate.

Local anglers ply these waters for the world-class muskie fishing found here. That said, the bass fishery has received very little press until the lake hit Bassmaster’s 100 Best Bass Lakes list (ranked No. 86 this year). The fishing pressure is slight, and the smallmouth are eager to bite because of it. As a bonus, anglers can target shallow water canals and boat docks for easy limits of largemouth. What could be more festive than that?
