On the water with Lowen

Bill Lowen started the final day of the Bassmaster Classic just over seven pounds behind leader Jason Christie, but he caught the fastest limit of the morning that weighed roughly 12 pounds.

Bill Lowen started his final day in Honey Creek as he tried to catch the leaders and stay in contention for a Bassmaster Classic trophy.

Lowen fished some rocky points and pockets with moving baits before settling into the sweet spot of his area.

He switched between a crankbait and a spinnerbait early on Championship Sunday.

Sundayâs forecast looks to be warmer, but windier than any other day this week.

A ripple forms on the water and this should help the spinnerbait bite compared to the slick calm weather that anglers faced on the first two days.

Soon after arriving, cameraman Wes Miller and former Elite Series angler Kevin Ledoux show up to get some shots for the Bassmaster TV show on ESPN2.

The cameras are rolling overhead as well.

As Lowen settles into a stretch of docks he picks up a Texas Rigged tube and begins flipping around the shallow cover nearby.

He talks on Bassmaster LIVE as the cameras are rolling and he is still in search mode for number one.

He hooks up with a fish, but it gets tangled in some cables so Lowen repositions his rod to hopefully get the fish successfully.

But it comes off and Lowen knows that he canât lose fish on the final day if he wants to keep pace.

He talks with the viewers at home and says that was a pretty good one.

But he stays persistent and fishes on. Soon he hooks up with a quality fish.

Now itâs time to get it in the boat and break the ice.

The fish thrashes at the boat, but Lowen stays calm.

He grabs his line and follows it down to the fishes mouth as he reaches to grab it.

Got it! Good one to start the morningâ¦

And he caught it on Bassmaster LIVE so that is always an added bonus. As Lowen reties he talks to the camera and talks strategy for his final day.

He continues to work his sweet stretch of docks and he hooks up again.

This isnât a big one, but itâs number two as he attempts to swing it in the boat.

You never know how the final day of the Bassmater Classic will pan out, so every keeper is key to making a move up the leaderboard.

Thatâs number two.

Lowen negotiates his way in between two docks as his Skeeter gets wedged in between them.

And a picturesque hookset results.

With the limited space in between the docks, Lowen swings the fish across the front of the boat.

Itâs a pretty good one for the Indiana native.

Like other anglers this week, Lowen bends down to navigate his way under walkways and cables.

These unpressured areas have enough water to hold these shallow bass that are almost in the mating mindset.

He fights this one down the side of the boatâ¦

And swings it aboard.

Number four is the best so far.

As he puts the keeper in the livewell his boat floats towards the bank so he puts his trolling motor on the bank to keep from moving with the slight breeze.

The cameras already have some good footage from Lowenâs early morning flurry.

As he runs out of docks he picks up a spinnerbait and throws it parallel to a rocky bluff bank.

And he hooks up close to the boat.

He swings it aboard.

Lowen is one of the best spinnerbait fishermen in the Elite Series field. He finished second on the Chesapeake Bay by utilizing the blade and is keeping it in his rotation this week too.

Solid fifth keeper by 9 a.m. âYesterday I finished off my limit by 3:05 p.m. so this is a welcomed sight,â Lowen said.

He breaks down his strategy now that he has five fish in the boat. He is tying on a big jig and a buzzbait because if he gets a bite on those they are more likely to be a kicker than some other alternative techniques.

With the change in baits, Lowen also moves locations as he idles across the cove.

Cameras are fixed on Lowen as every angler is sitting on less than three fish as the Indiana pro already has a 12-pound limit.

Fans watch from the rocky shoreline as they see one of the quietest Elite Series anglers plugs away.

Lowen contemplates the next move as he stares towards the main lake.

Before moving on to Duck Creek to try and get a few big bites. He would later return from Duck after a fruitless trip and put a few more fish in the boat back on his sweet set of docks in Honey Creek.
