Lucas was nervous as anyone can be as the weigh-in grew closer. He said that Aaron Martens told him he had 18 to 19 pounds and Lucas knew he only had 15 to 16 so he knew it was going to be close.

Lucas told us about growing up around here and how he caught his fish this week. His decision-making on the final day was fantastic to start the day, local knowledge helped play a part for him.

We head through the parking lot searching for Aaron Martens.

We get near his truck, but he is nowhere to be found.

Martens is also from California originally and he told us about how he never could win here on the Delta because the Southern California lakes he grew up on were more of a finesse deal and didnât have grass and reeds like the Delta has.

He primarily used a drop shot to catch the âfry guarders.â Martens could catch finicky postspawners with the finesse presentation.

He caught a 7-pounder today and made it close in the standings.

Martens also explained why he wears the individual toed shoes that he always has onâ¦it helps with his plantar fasciitis.

Martens ended up finishing second place.

He is on a roll this year and he talked about his fantastic start to the season and also going home next week to fish Lake Havasu for the fourth Elite Series event.
