BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Star brite, a leading U.S. manufacturer of marine care and appearance items, will be the presenting sponsor of the fifth event of the 2013 Bassmaster Elite Series season.
The Alabama River Charge presented by Star brite will take place May 9-12 out of Montgomery, Ala.
“We wanted to support the Alabama River Charge because Montgomery is the home of our Kinpak manufacturing and distribution facility,”said Greg Dornau, executive vice president of Star brite, which markets polishes, cleaners, motor oils, fuel treatments, brushes, tie downs, lubricants, adhesives and much more under several brands. “We were looking for a way to give back to the bass fishing community, so the opportunity to sponsor a world-class event right here in our hometown was the perfect opportunity.”
The Alabama River Charge presented by Star brite will be a hometown event for B.A.S.S. as well as for the newly named presenting sponsor. B.A.S.S., now based in Birmingham, was founded in 1968 in Montgomery. Also, the capital city has served as the fishery for several top-tier Bassmaster competitions, including the 1981 and 1982 Bassmaster Classic world championships. Most recently, Montgomery hosted three consecutive Elite Series postseason events, from 2009 to 2011.
“With the rich history of B.A.S.S. in Montgomery, it is great to see a nationally known business with a local tie get involved with the upcoming Bassmaster event scheduled for the Alabama River,” said Trip Weldon, B.A.S.S. tournament director. “We’re always happy to bring an event to Montgomery — it’s like coming home — and we’re pleased Star brite is partnering with us to give the fans a show.”
As the fifth of eight regular-season events, the Alabama River Charge presented by Star brite should turn out to be a big show. The event’s outcome could be pivotal in the Elite pros’ race for the 2013 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year title. Anglers also will be attempting to accumulate enough points to qualify for the 2014 Bassmaster Classic, or to win the event outright; the winner of each 2013 Elite event not only scores $100,000, but also gets an instant-in for the 2014 Classic, which will be held on Lake Guntersville with weigh-ins in Birmingham.
Fans are invited to come out and see their angling heroes, watch the free weigh-in shows and have fun at the free Bassmaster Elite Series Family Fishing Fest on the Montgomery Riverfront in the heart of the city’s historic downtown. There, Star brite will join other Elite Series partners in entertaining the fans and showing off their products, including Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment, a multifunction additive.
“It uses a unique enzyme formula that allows all engines to start more easily, run smoothly, with less harmful emissions,” said Bill Lindsey, Star brite vice president of marketing. “It ‘cures’ most of the problems associated with ethanol-blended fuel (E10), including lost power, reduced fuel economy and gum or varnish deposits. When used at every fill-up, Star Tron keeps fuel injectors, carburetors, valves and other engine components clean. It also stabilizes fuel for up to two years, without the ‘smokiness’ of traditional chemical-type stabilizers.”
Star brite also plans to be on hand at two other Elite events: the May 2-5 West Point Lake Battle out of LaGrange, Ga., and the Aug. 8-11 St. Lawrence River Showdown out of Waddington, N.Y. The company will have a presence at several 2013 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens Series events in Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, New York and Ohio, as well.
