EAST GWILLIMBURY, Ontario — Members of the Aurora Bassmasters filled 35 garbage bags along a 2 1/2-mile stretch of road during the annual Earth Day cleanup.

"Members picked up dozens of bags of garbage, from Bathurst Street in the east to first stop lights in the west, a total of 4 kilometers each way," said Wil Wegman, member of the Aurora club. The 14 volunteers also cleaned up around the popular shore fishing area at Soldiers Bay on the Holland River, picking up items ranging from tires to strollers.

"The day is always capped off with a free barbecue for volunteers," said Wegman, "and this year, the local mayor showed up to flip burgers and to thank the club for its many years of work to help keep the community clean."

The volunteers contributed 58 man-hours for this project.
