Longobardi withdraws from Elite Series

Stephen Longobardi will not finish his rookie season on the Elite series, but hopes to be back one day.

Elite Series angler Stephen Longobardi notified B.A.S.S. tournament officials this week that he will not be fishing the final three tournaments of the season.

Longobardi, a Connecticut angler who has fished all five Elite Series events so far this year, is in 114th place in the Angler of the Year standings. His best finish was an 89th-place showing at the Sacramento River.

Longobardi provided B.A.S.S. with the following statement:

"I took a risk and lived my dream of competing at the highest level in tournament bass fishing. I have to look at this as a business decision right now even though fishing will always be a passion of mine.

I have nothing but respect for the anglers I competed against. They are some of the most down-to-earth and hard-working people on the planet.

I would like to thank Candid Group, Foxborough MA Bass Pro Shops, Nitro Boats, 6th Sense Lure Company, Mccoy Fishing Line, and Gamakatsu Hooks for all of their support. I would also like to thank B.A.S.S. and everyone in the organization.

I don't know what the future holds for me. Regardless, I regret nothing. I have learned a lot from this experience, and it will be something that I will never forget."
