Fishing superstar Kevin VanDam has loaned his name to a new charity tournament organized by the Detroit Lions.

Fishing superstar Kevin VanDam of Kalamazoo, Mich., has loaned his name to a new charity tournament organized by the Detroit Lions.

The inaugural Detroit Lions/Kevin VanDam Charity Fishing Tournament will be June 12 at Kensington Metropark on Kent Lake in Milford, Mich. Besides VanDam, slated to fish are Lions’ head coach Jim Schwartz, current and former Lions players, coaches and staff.

The tournament was organized by Detroit Lions Charities, which has donated more than $6.2 million to charity since 1991, according to the Lions’ website.

“I grew up watching the Detroit Lions, so I’m a lifetime Lions fan. For me it’s truly an honor and a privilege to be partnered with the Lions organization,” VanDam said in a Lions news release.

B.A.S.S. will facilitate the event. Bassmaster emcee Dave Mercer will share on-stage duties with “voice of the Lions” Dan Miller. A casual dinner during the weigh-in and a silent auction are planned.
