How the Classic trophy gets made

DEL CITY — A Bassmaster world championship win isn’t something that just suddenly comes together and, fittingly, neither does the championship trophy.

A month prior to the 2016 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by GoPro, the world champion trophy lay in pieces on a long steel table at MTM Recognition, creators and designers of the iconic 40-pound trophy that the best fisherman in the world will lift over his head come the end of competition on March 6.

“Oh, there are many steps and a lot of people involved,” Brad Myers, with MTM sports business development, said. “You have several departments that have worked on this up to this point and probably 20, 30 hours of actual physical work making the parts of the trophy up to now.”
