Homan hosting soldiers tournament

GRAHAM, Texas — Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Opens competitor Brent Homan is looking for volunteers to take soldiers fishing in the second Operation Kick Some Bass Tournament, Sept. 21 at Lake Graham/Lake Eddleman.

“I am trying to get 60 volunteer boaters to take out 60 soldiers,” said Homan, an Army veteran who was severely injured in Operation Iraqi Freedom. “I am passionate about helping soldiers.”

In a message Homan sent to his Facebook friends, he wrote: “For those who know me, you know that taking care of our soldiers is a project close to my heart.”

The tournament benefits Freedom Care Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing veterans with healing opportunities through outdoor activities and fellowship programs. Bassmaster Elite Series pros Kelly Jordon and Gary Klein were involved with the inaugural tournament last year that drew 13 soldiers from various branches of the military. The event features a pro-am format with the standings determined by the combined weight of five largest bass of the boater and wounded warrior/veteran.

The tournament is free for the participants, so Homan is relying on sponsors to support the event. Anyone who wants to sponsor the tournament or provide raffle items can contact Homan at homan_brent@yahoo.com or Jon Van Winkle, Freedom Care Warrior Project founder, at jon@freedomcarewarriors.org.

More information about the tournament is available on the tournament’s Facebook page.
