Four names came to mind the moment I learned the Bassmaster Classic is coming to Tulsa and Grand Lake in 2013 – Edwin Evers, Tommy Biffle, Joe Krieger and Hy Peskin.
There is a melding of past and present here, an excuse to ponder a colorful history and to look forward with excitement. The 2013 event will indeed be the first Bassmaster Classic in Oklahoma, but this won’t be the first time for a world champion angler to be crowned here.
A couple years ago, I profiled an elderly angler from Bartlesville by the name of Fred Storer, and he was the first to tell me about well-known sports promoter and photographer Hy Peskin, who developed the idea of world series championship fishing in North America.
