Gear Review: Frogg Toggs FTX Armor Jacket

WHAT IS IT?

Frogg Toggs FTX Armor Jacket and Bibbs

WHAT SETS IT APART?

When designing the Armor jacket and bibbs, Frogg Toggs gathered input from some of the brand’s younger pro staffers, who described aesthetic and functional details important to them. Probably the most immediately noticeable feature is the clean, modern look with no exposed zippers or external pockets. Both items are made with a Teflon DWR-coated polyester outer layer for a lightweight, durable and breathable construction, while the 100% waterproof DriPore Gen2 middle layer and a smooth micro-textured tricot inner fabric complete this comfortable and dependable design.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The jacket features a fully-vented, three-way adjustable hood, while the full front zipper ends with a fully-enclosed double storm flap helps keep the water on the outside. Frogg Toggs further protects the angler from water intrusion with neoprene internal cuffs and full 360-degree retention strap on each wrist for adjusting tension to fit the conditions. The Armor bibbs include two internal thigh pockets with exposed zippers and knee-high side zippers for easy on and off. Available in five colors with sizes small to 3XL.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

From a functional standpoint, the absence of externally visible zippers and pockets eliminates the risk of any awkward line entanglements — the stuff that only happens when we’re in a hurry or trying to unhook a big fish. Frogg Toggs also included two external D-rings allowing you to attach a kill switch, fish towel or other accessories. That feature enhances the functionality and complete the picture for a solid option for lightweight rain suit needs.
