Gear Review: Flambeau Tuff Box

What is it?

Flambeau Tuff Box

What sets it apart?

Keeping moisture out is one thing, and Flambeau’s heavy-duty, waterproof construction does a good job of protecting your tools, tackle, personal electronics and valuables from all the splashes, drips and drops associated with outdoor recreation. But making this new line of storage boxes doubly protective is Flambeau’s patented Zerust VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) molded directly into the plastic. Emitting a harmless vapor, this polymer forms a protective layer around the metal surfaces to inhibit corrosion.

How do I use it?

The Tuff Box lineup includes five sizes, each made of sturdy polycarbonate and featuring a clear lid with o-ring seal to prevent water intrusion. The internal warp-free rubberized bumper system not only minimizes the shock of bouncing through rough rides, it also muffles sound — helpful when you’re digging through your storage in shallow water.

Tuff Boxes are built with easy-open latches including stainless steel hinge pins, pressure release valves that allow for air travel, as well as changes in atmospheric pressure and elevation, and quick-release lanyard with swivel hook.

Angler’s insight:

From metal tools to sensitive electronics, long-term storage is always tricky when water enters the equation. Skimp on container quality and you’ll likely flush a lot of cash as hooks, pliers and other items end up sitting in those telltale brownish outlines.

With options ranging from 5.7 inches x 4.1 inches to 9.8 x 5.6, there’s a Tuff Box for just about any items you need to protect. Even beyond the cost savings, preventing corrosion means minimizing the frustrating search for tackle suitable for use. Minimizing downtime means maximizing your fishing time.
