At every Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Open that I have covered or competed in this year, countless anglers have lamented on the weigh-in stage that they lost good fish right at the boat. I¹ve certainly heard this comment in years past, but the lost-bass grievance has increased astronomically this year.
The lost-bass blues became a virtual theme song Thursday when the anglers weighed-in at the first day of the Ft. Gibson Open. No doubt you will hear it repeatedly at today¹s weigh-in.
The reason is due to the Bassmaster Opens¹ no-net rule that was introduced this season, the same rule that the Bassmaster Elite Series pros must live by. Anyone who dreams of becoming an Elite Series pro had better learn how to stay calm and get a firm grip on a heavy bass thrashing at boat side.
