Connecticut awards scholarships

Melinda Noel, Daniel Gage and Olivia Rustic won scholarships in the Connecticut B.A.S.S. Nation's annual awards ceremony.

Candidates are chosen based on their answers in an interview as well as an essay that they wrote.

Noel, a graphic design student at Keene State College, was awarded $1,500. She is sponsored by her father, Kevin Noel, a member of the Mohawk Valley Bassmasters. She volunteered her time and services as a photographer for the 26 Angels Foundation event in May at Candlewood Lake.

Gage, who will begin his studies at The Ohio State University this fall, received a $1,000 scholarship. He is sponsored by his father, Donald Gage, of the Pachaug Area Bassmasters.

Rustic was awarded the $500 scholarship award to help pay for her studies at Bryant University. She is sponsored by her father, Dean Rustic, of the Mohawk Valley Bassmasters.

The Connecticut B.A.S.S. Nation has awarded more than $23,000 in scholarships since the program's inception in 2005.

"A big thank you to our judges, Matt DeSimone, Rob Germain, Dan Monroe and our scholarship chairperson, Kevin Lavender," said Sylvia Morris, Connecticut B.A.S.S. Nation president.
